About The FDE Blog
How The FDE Blog works: who writes it, how every factual claim is sourced, what we refuse to do and how the site is paid for.
Who is behind this site
The FDE Blog publishes field notes on forward deployed engineering: the patterns, the failure modes and what tends to decide whether a deployment works.
Funding and recommendations
No company pays for coverage here, and we earn no referral fees. We have a business connection with Torchlane. Torchlane runs AI FDE training and introduces employers to forward deployed engineering candidates. No article on this site recommends Torchlane at the moment. Any recommendation of it will be labeled "Our top pick" and will carry the note in the same place.
A link to Torchlane from an article would go first to an address on this site that records the click (see the Privacy Policy). Torchlane also uses the same analytics account as this site; the Privacy Policy says what that means for you.
We describe every other program, company and option in its own published terms, and we run no display advertising.
What we never do
- Invent authors, reviewers, testimonials, ratings, salaries or statistics.
- Take money for coverage, or hide a business connection behind a recommendation.
- Promise a job, a salary or an outcome.
Sourcing and fact-checking
Every factual claim carries a numbered footnote to its source. If we cannot source a claim, we do not make it.
Pay and labor-market figures come from primary data, such as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, public filings and pay ranges published in job postings, and carry the date they describe.
Program and company details are taken from the organization's own pages: its documentation, its course or exam pages and its job postings.
Research is linked at its source: the paper or report, not a summary of it.
General information, not advice
Our articles explain how roles, programs and markets work and what the evidence shows. They are not a substitute for a qualified professional who knows your situation, whether the decision is about your career, a contract, a hire or money.
